FEMA paperwork assistance available
before March 14 deadline

MAYFIELD – Survivors of the December 10 tornado who have not yet applied for FEMA disaster assistance are encouraged to do so by the deadline of Monday, March 14.

Those affected may apply Friday, March 11, at the Mayfield Plaza Shopping Center, 1102 Paris Rd., Suite 4. Times available to apply Friday are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Representatives from FEMA will be available to assist those applying with their paperwork. Bilingual assistance will be provided.

On Saturday, March 12, people can seek assistance online or via telephone. The website address for assistance that day is www.disasterassistance.gov. The telephone number for FEMA’s Helpline is 1-800-621-2262 (TTY: 1-800-462-7585).

If any survivor has previously applied for FEMA assistance and was denied, he or she must complete the Small Business Administration application which was emailed in order to qualify for additional benefits or to appeal the FEMA application.

The SBA application must be completed by Monday, March 14. It can be completed at the Mayfield Plaza event this weekend.

FEMA assistance is available for both homeowners and renters. Only one member of the household must be a U.S. citizen to qualify for assistance, and includes children or other family members who are permanent residents of the household.

Secondary residences also qualify for assistance. The SBA can provide funding for improvements to a secondary residence, however an application to FEMA must be submitted first.
